My story

I provide agile and commercial project-based HR solutions to the retail and beauty industries to help companies attract, retain, develop and reward employees with the right skills and behaviours to drive growth across all channels.

With over 20 years’ experience of working for some of the biggest global retail and beauty brands, across multiple consumer demographics, geographies and channels, I understand how tough the Retail and Beauty Industries are and the need to ensure fast and effective commercial people solutions that drive sales and protect the bottom line.

You won’t hear me talking about ‘HR best practice’,  I focus on the right solutions for your business, based on your vision, values, goals and unique customer proposition, to ensure that  my advice is pragmatic, commercial and easy to implement.

Who I am:

I’m Rebecca Day and the Owner and Director of Day HR Consultants.

As a senior HR leader, I have both UK and global experience gained across all areas of the Retail and Beauty Industries from point-of-sale/service through to manufacturing and supply chain. I have worked across 29 brands, international territories, diverse consumer demographics and multiple distribution channels for brands such as Jo Malone London, MAC, Estee Lauder and Aveda as well as for clients in premium luxury, fashion and lifestyle, food and the grocery sector.

I have led HR and multi-functional teams and spearheaded end-to-end talent, employee relations (including complex redundancies, restructures and reorganisations, TUPE and discrimination cases), organisational design and business transformation projects, all of which have delivered to the bottom line.

As a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development, I am an ACAS trained mediator and have professional indemnity of £1,000,000 per employee relations case. I work on a freelance basis which means I have the flexibility to travel throughout the UK and Internationally in line with the needs of your business.

• Freelance organisational design expert responsible for leading a talent transformation project for a top multi-channel manufacturer in the UK Personal Care industry

• Creation and delivery of an EMEA supply chain change leadership strategy across multiple countries, sites and work streams
• Design of a global competency based end-to-end talent framework for point-of-sale employees in the retail beauty industry (from entry level POS to Vice President, Sales)
• Development of pre-screening, video screening and face-to-face behavioural questions and tool kits for the implementation of Taleo/HireVue (applicant tracking system) in North America, EMEA and the UK
• Design of an ongoing performance tool to eliminate formal annual reviews and drive business building behaviours for a multi-national retailer in the beauty industry
• Creation of customised content for a global virtual on demand, bite sized learning programme with accompanying tool kits for Retail Managers and separately, for manufacturing and research & development employees during my time as a freelance HR Consultant Manufacturing and Supply Chain
• As a Salon & Spa HR consultant, I led the TUPE acquisition of a salon and spa brand to create the salon and spa division of a leading hair care company
• I have extensive beauty HR consultancy experience across all product categories, consumer demographics and distribution channels
• In my role as freelance retail cosmetics HR expert, I work with brands to evaluate their in-store retail cosmetics advisor’s ability to provide excellent customer experiences with recommendations on how to improve these to drive sales growth across all channels

I design blended learning solutions, including bespoke virtual on-demand bite-sized learning pathways through online, offline and 121 training to develop the skills and behaviours that your employees need to demonstrate, in order to be successful.

Organisation design

I apply an outside-in approach to organisation design starting with your position in the market place; your competitors, customers and emerging trends and insights.  I then consider your overall strategy, short-term and long-term goals, your strengths, weaknesses and opportunities, ensuring that I engage and align with all stakeholders to help you design an agile organisation with the people, processes and technology you need to effectively deliver your strategy.

Redundancy and Reorganisation

By working together, I offer commercial, pragmatic and legally robust end-to-end redundancy support, devising your overall strategy from concept through to implementation.

I ensure that we are legally compliant to minimise risk, manage the process to ensure least amount of stress and uncertainty possible for those affected, align with all stakeholders, provide support at all redundancy meetings, prepare all announcement and meeting scripts and follow-up communication. I also create comprehensive company-wide communication to ensure that your employees understand the reasons for redundancy and to surface and minimise any hidden concerns that those left behind may have.

I design and deliver redundancy workshops to help line managers support both their team members affected by redundancy as well as those left behind who may be feeling vulnerable and unsettled. These workshops are for those affected by redundancy to help them manage the process; understand the change curve and prepare for their next role.  This includes help with CV writing, LinkedIn profiles and preparing for interviews.
